The courses will cover the basic techniques, but if you have already had experience throwing before we can work with you to further develop your skills. You can therefore do this course as a complete beginner or as someone with experience, everyone will receive guidance that matches their skill level.
On these summer courses, there will be plenty of time to get deep into learning to throw and all the processes involved. The courses will cover preparing the clay (also known as wedging), centering on the wheel, throwing, trimming, adding handles and surface decoration. For those that are interested in knowing more, it is possible to also learn about loading kilns, firings and glazing.
It is recommended that you come with a small sketchbook (A5/A6) and pencils/pens to keep a record of the things you learn and to make sketches of things you would like to make. Please wear clothes and shoes that can get dirty.
We will eat together around 13:00, during the summer (if the weather is nice) we will sit outside between the large pots in front of the workshop with the beautiful forest and nature around. Monday to Thursday you will need to bring your own lunch, however we will provide a communal lunch on Friday to celebrate a lovely week. Complimentary coffee, tea, fruit and biscuits will be provided during the week.
The facilities in the area around the studio are plentiful, you can start your day with a swim in the ocean at Charlottenlund beach or with a walk through the forest surrounding the area. You are more than welcome to visit the studio before to meet Christian and Isabel.
